The CReSIS Education Team works to integrate polar science related to glaciers, remote sensing, polar ecosystems, and climate change data into science, math, and technology curricula through online activities and information, face-to-face presentations and workshops.
Students and teachers can follow the work of scientific teams at the Center and in the field; access lessons and data on topics of interest; locate current news on environmental change and polar ecosystems; experiment with interactive climate demonstrations; and develop lessons of their own. We also support enrichment programs for middle schools, particularly those with significant minority enrollment, through weekly activities, faculty visits, and online collaboration.
Each summer, CReSIS offers professional development workshops across partner institutions for K-12 science teachers. These workshops focus on global climate change, its impacts on the cryosphere, and the remote sensing techniques used at CReSIS. Participants in these workshops have the opportunity to meet and work with world-class scientists addressing climate change and sea level rise issues, and develop resources to use in the classroom.
